Clare (6) and Elizabeth (7) were reading from Clare's phonics reader the other day. This sentence came up: "Jack has jam."

At which point Clare looked up and said, "Are we allowed to say that word?"

"Which word?" I say.

"Jam", responds Clare.

"Jam?" (pause) "Oh, yeah, we're allowed to say that word, Sweetie!" Not to be confused with that rhyming word that starts with a D!
