I haven’t posted in a while because we have been quite busy here. This past weekend we threw a surprise birthday party for my mom, Grandmommy, as she is affectionately referred to around here. Her birthday is actually the 15th, the Feast of the Assumption, and also Little Red’s 4th birthday. Grandmommy turns 70 this year.

All of this required lots of planning. I had it catered, (brilliant idea!) and hired a professional photographer for the afternoon. And it required a LOT of cleaning, which in case I hadn’t mentioned it before, is not my forte. We cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. There is some Erma Bombeck quote about cleaning when there are children in the  house. I don’t quite remember how it goes, something about shoveling during a snowstorm, but it definitely describes our endeavors here.

But the day was wonderful! After over a week of 100 degree days, the temperature dropped to the high-80’s. All of my brothers, from Florida to New York, made it with their families. The only person missing was Uncle Joe’s sweet friend Gina.

We got lots of pictures, played a lot of ping-pong and the cousins had hours to hang out.

Grandmommy was very surprised!

And when all was said and done, and the last travelers had  pulled out of the driveway, the house was trashed, we were thoroughly exhausted,  and glad to collapse onto our couches with a feeling of relief and satisfaction. We really did pull it off! Surprise!!
