I have seven children. Eight, really, counting this little guy in utero, who certainly makes his presence known throughout the day. I just hosted a weekend long sleepover and party after weeks of preparation. I am beat.
So, I declared today a day off for Mama. The kids, too. That’s right, a little more X-box or book reading, jammies until afternoon, whatever. That’s the kids. What about Mama? What does a "day off" look like for a mom of eight? That’s what I am asking myself.
Let’s see, there are the extra bed linens and towels from nine house-guests, so a little laundry. There are the dishes that, despite the best efforts of sister-in-law Tonia, are still piled up, so a load or two of dishes. Then those kids who have the day off still want to eat, go figure. And that adorable toddler who still needs her diaper changed. To top it off there is the eleven year old with the ear-ache, baseball practice tonight, and a homeschool co-op meeting after that.
Okay, maybe "day off" is a misnomer. But there are lots of bagels left from the weekend- there’s breakfast and lunch. The freezer is stocked thanks to my dear husband who loves a good sale- there’s dinner. There are even some brownies left over, as well as birthday cake- wow, dessert! And nap time will come and I will put my feet up, close my eyes and thank God for the fullness and busyness of my life. Hopefully, I will feel a little more rested and refreshed.
But not to worry, it looks like we are headed for a "vacation" next week at the lake. And we all know what a vacation means to a mom of eight! LOL!

Wow!. I’m tired just reading how busy you have been : )
I hope you’re able to take that nap. Have fun on your vacation.
