Lest my previous post about Sir Charles’ best friend leave the impression that the rest of us are unaffected by Sweet Em, I thought I would touch on the relationship between Sir Charles and Sweet Em.

Charlie’s not around much. He is sixteen, a junior in high school, and busy with things like baseball, weight-lifting, friends and sleep. But when he walks in the door each afternoon, he calls "Baby Girl!" and Sweet Em goes running to him to be scooped up in his arms.

He’s the perfect older brother, in her eyes, at least. He loves to take her picture, pull her out of bed when she is crying (and supposed to be falling asleep) and slip her sips of soda when Mommy says no.

He almost went to boarding school this year. There were so many positives about the place we wanted him to go. But even as we waited nervously for the admissions decisions, my heart was heavy about separating my kids. He would miss so much, especially in Sweet Em’s life. And now that George (real name not determined!) is on the way, I am that much happier to know that for two more years, Charlie will be here to spoil and tease and be that big brother and to call "Baby Girl!" when he walks through the door.
