my camera is broken!

Years ago, maybe 5 or 6, Court bought me my first digital camera. It was great. It was a CD camera which doubled as a videocamera. It was big and sturdy. I loved the CD aspect. I could just pop the CD into the computer and there were my pictures. No USB plugs or memory cards. Nice and simple, just my speed. Also, there were no rolls of film for me to forget to develop.

But all good things must come to an end. One day, it just stopped working. We took it back to Circuit City to get it fixed. They kept it for months, only to inform us that they no longer fix cameras!

And so we lived without a camera, hoping to find someone to fix the one I loved, or find some spare change for a new one. We even resorted to a disposable camera for Christmas 2006. Which, of course, still hasn’t been developed.

Finally, we broke down and bought a new, handy little camera on sale at Target. Really cute, no CD, but it had a nice viewfinder (is that what you call it?) and even took videos.  With another baby on the way, I didn’t want to put it off any longer.

Not long after we purchased it, my oldest child (who shall remain nameless) dropped it. The nice little viewfinder no longer worked. Actually, you could still see through half of it, so it was just a minor setback. Then, the same unnamed child dropped it again. No kidding. Now there was no viewfinder at all. A bigger setback because now I could only view the pictures on the computer. There was all that USB connection/ memory card stuff to deal with. But, I still had a camera. Until someone, a mystery this time, dropped it again. Now it won’t even turn on.

I try not to cling to material possessions. Really. But I have a new baby. He changes every day. This life moves so quickly. There is so much I want to capture with a picture. And I have no camera.

I think that’s worth a good cry, don’t you?
