When you are two and have very limited verbal skills, you sometimes need to take things into your own hands.

Case in point, when you are hungry and have a craving for Ramen Noodles (please no “bad mom” tomatoes here!), the best way to get your point across is to walk a big person through the steps.

1. You need a pan. Point to drawer and then to pot when drawer is opened.
2. You need Ramen Noodles. Take big person to pantry where you get the noodles which are low enough for you to reach.
3. You need water. Take big person to sink with pan to get water.
4. Get up on stool. Put pack of noodles in pan. Oops! Need to get it out of the wrapper first!!!
5. Have big person open noodles, then put in noodles in pan. (Big person sneaks in the seasoning as the two year old doesn’t seem to notice this step as essential.
6. Reach blindly into silverware drawer for fork to stir noodles. Help stir. Or not, pretty hot stuff!
7. Move stool to cupboard area, point to appropriate bowl to be taken down.
8. Reach blindly into silverware drawer to get your fork.
9. Go to ice dispenser and proudly say “Ice”. Put ice in bowl of hot noodles
10. Climb up in highchair and Enjoy!!!

It’s almost sad to think that before long she will know how to ask for them by name, and the cute little ritual will be replaced by something like “I want Ramen Noodles, NOW!” (not that my children would ever speak that way, really)
