What Easter is not about:
A clean house,
Completed Lenten crafts and prayer books,
What is in the Easter baskets,
Successful making of Easter Story Cookies or Lamb cakes,
Making it to the Mass of choice,
The "right" decorations to make sure the house looks "joyful",
A well-prepared breakfast,
New clothes, or the lack of new clothes,
How bad a certain 39 year old look in her not new Easter clothes.
Easter is about one thing: the Resurrection of our Lord. This gift is not made better by my accomplishing all I want to accomplish and it is not diminished if I wake to find much left undone. It is a gift that transcends all of these earthly concerns and demands our joyful and thankful response of "Allelulia"! And I am so blessed to have children who despite all of their shortcomings, sing out with a joyful Alleluia because they know the gift they have been given by our Lord!
I wrote this post on Easter, but never got to finish it. When I logged on today, I found it auto-saved and knew that I needed to post it. It is a lesson I will doubtless need to remind myself of any many future occasions.
